Odd grommets

Anybody ever see grommets like this? It's on an M42 cap.

On some Luft. M41 caps, similar style, but not exactly the same grommet or material.

Yep, probably right. At the moment it looks a dog's dinner.

The cap seems real, and the "ugly" insignia is machine sewn and NOT thru the lining... maybe it is bad light?

For what I am paying, it's worth the gamble!
