Would you be kind enough to post pics? That way we'd have a vet pick up to compare the others to.

I don't know what's the story behind these SS caps with HB liners, I've never handled one, but so many advanced collectors seem to dismiss nearly all of them out of hand, there must be something wrong and quite obvious.

If anyone would care to enlighten me via pm I'd be most grateful.

I have seen Panzer M-43s with HB linings, as well as with gray and black linings not sure why would there be an issue. Anyway what needs to be discuss is the whole cap itself but we need more pictures if you want an eduicated evaluation just my 2 cents.

Greg if you want an educated evaluation you will need clear pictures as the one posted below. Notice the construction shown in front and the insignia how it is machine attached.

Just by doing a quick search on this thread I found at least three good Panzer M43s.

All top M43 cap reproductions which I have observed utilize herringbone liners, most of the time it is period liner re-worked, one of the most obvious red flags is the elongated pull down straps, most originals are much shorter, again a very common trait on some good M43 fakes (although I am sure some of the savy fakers corrected this by now) there are certainly other red flags like the type of bogus bias material utilized on most top notch fakes. I am positive that if more images were posted of all the areas, the extent of the repro work would be even more obvious, although what is evident now leaves no doubt about it being a reproduction.

It is interesting to note, that every original M43 I have ever observed from both the woodwork and collecions never had herringbone liners. Also it is important to note, that the only available panzer M43s out there are the late war Dachau versions. The other type (which were the ones worn for the most part during the war) are ultra ultra ultra rare. The chance of one languishing on some website is comical. The last REAL SS Panzer M43 I had seen available, was gone in one day for the sum of 7K. Most SS Panzer M43s out there available (aside from the Dacahu variety,) are fake (sometimes advnaced fakes, sometimes obvious) But in my opinion this cap has as much chance of being original as a US three dollar bill.

In my humble opinion, you have 2 of the top experts on M43 caps that have commented on this thread: Lenny W and Glenn McInnes, you can't get better opinion than theirs. If you are not comfortable with their assesment, there is none better on this forum. In my opinion, Lenny W is the top expert on M43 caps on the WAF. The only other individual who can be up there with these two fellows regarding M43 caps is Gerard Stetselberger.
