    The Laughing Sawfish - 9th Flotilla
    One of the more famous emblems, this became the emblem of the 9th Flotilla in Brest, one the most active combat units of the war. Thus is was seen on many boats, most notably U-96 and became famous in the movie Das Boot. Originally it was green but somehow the Red version has become much more famous and many people have never seen the green one.

      Yes, there is some debate of this badge on this thread as an identical one has turned up with identical 'manufacturing marks'!

        I had two of these badges and they were not painted, but natural brass. Also they each had four prongs soldered on the reverse. As for Kirk's cap I have never been a fan of piping that is joined on the side; may have been a postwar upgrade.
