Angolia has pictures of several types of "billed" examples but I don't recall seeing one like this --- even in pictures.
(more of a comment on rarity -- not authenticity!)

Very interesting variant...First one I've seen so far.

        The waffenfarbe makes it complete!

        Cheers

Very nice cap, congrats on a very unusual find and don't hold you breath while trying to locate another example. Very attractive cap and I am sure there are probably some out there, but in collections that aren't on the internet or involved on forums. I have never seen another just like it, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments on this

I've been trying to locate the image of Sepp Dietrich with his cover the same as the posted example. For the life of me, I cannot remember which work I saw his image with a match other than insignia and perhaps the covers material.

Its authentic for what I can tell, and I am not going to remove the sheeps skin. The stiching is set to the covers age as one would expect and I am not one to remove it to look, even a few stiches that some do with examples to see what they can see.

I think whoever had this originally wanted to be distinct while on some duty and knew it would work for him. Whoever it was I wonder if he had another like it?

The white stiches in the soutache are there to hold the lip to the cap itself so one could not turn down the wool toward the ears. So it is obvious it was for show only.

I believe it to be more than quite rare and no doubt something that makes you wonder what this troops uniforms looked like.
