This the is the kind of Panzer OS I've been in the market for. I don't know much about Panzer headgear. This is being offered by a dealer and I was wondering everyone's thoughts and opinions on it. Authentic or not? Should I pass?

PASS!
And... if you have even considered this one, you are truly a beginner in this VERY EXPENSIVE arena. Spend some cash on good headgear books, search old threads here at WAF, and study your butt off before spending once cent on a panzer O/S cap. You don't want to learn the hard way my friend!
Best regards - Mike

Well I agree that is no factory made Panzer cap. It is instead a factory made naval administration EM sidecap and quite a rare find.
Hard to say for sure if its pre-May 45 without seeing the lining or having a hands on with regard to some of the finer points but it certainly matches a veteran brought back one I have seen.
The naval administration always seem to use a woven eagle for the silver version, Very very rare to see a bevo one. The eagle on this one of course is woven as is the cockade.
The cap might look black in the images but I bet if you put it beside a good Panzer sidecap it will not be jet black but instead that very dark shade of KM blue-black.
Quite possible in rare cases for the Panzerwaffe may have worn such a cap but that is not for whom they were intended for.
Hope this is of help, Chris

I raise the question again, is this a naval admin side-cap ???
No one has addressed this aspect but if you feel I am wrong then please tell me. We all like to learn. Before you do however please have a look at the book
" Die Kreigsmarine Uniforms and Traditions, John.R.Angolia & Adolf Schlicht" Volume 1, Bender 1991, page 304.
The authors of this book illustrate the exact "Enlisted Brodmutze with yellow embroided national emblem. They note the variant pattern wreath about the swastika.
You will also find that eagle with wreath on a machine-embroided trapezoidal insignia for the blue M43 field cap illustrated on page 312 of the same book.
Now there could be other examples but I have not got time at the moment to go through all 3 volumes of this work.
This combined with an example of a very dark-blue naval sidecap with that badge and wreath but embroided in silver-grey, donated to a Returned Service Association here in New Zealand by the wife of a New Zealand soldier who served in Italy has lead me to believe that these caps and badges are correct. (The cap was donated with several items, one being a matching naval "Pea" jacket in the same very dark blue wool. Both appeared unissued.)
Have I and the authors of the above named book got this right and is the cap which started this thread in fact a WW2 German naval side-cap ?
I await your advise and opinions which may show more knowledge than one word,
