Myth-Busting 101: Post Your Fat Chincords!

JohnPic brought up a good point regarding the myth of the fat chincord--ie, if its fat, its fake. That is one myth that I have absolutely no idea where it came from, but it is flat-out WRONG. Lets put a stake in this myth by posting your fat, "rope-thick" chincords--these are on my Freudemann/Schellenberg. They are still tied together, and fit the hat perfectly:

The person making the myth up certainly had no idea what he was talking about!

I love fat chin cords. I think they are much better looking than thin. From my observations they seem to be more prevalent on caps by Erel, Schellenberg and Muller. I have seen them on tons of other makers but you see them on those three the most.

The statement as I understood it was made regarding all SS visor caps. Its ok if other visor caps have fat ones just not SS.Of coarse period photos quickly dispel the myth.I think the statement was made by someone who was nervously excited to see a few rare items he didnt posses himself..yet. Although the rest of the Third Reich was probably in his possession.I love it when collectors who have it all still get excited about nice things.

The only problem with the SS comment is the cords were a buyer’s preference. The same cords that went on Army caps went on SS, Luft, etc. There was no distinction on cords. Silver bullion was silver bullion.

I love fat birds, err, cords I mean. I've added an eagle to this cap since the photo, looks bloody amazing, one of my favs.
