Could someone please provide me with information on the leather-billed "crushers," i.e., year of introduction, design purpose, issue or both issue and private purchase, etc? Sorry for my ignorance, but while it seems like there is quite a bit of info. regarding the "old style" field caps with the cloth visor, there seems to be a derth of material regarding those with the leather bill. I'm intrigued by how these hats were obviously designed to be less formal than the standard Waffen SS nco caps with Vulkanviber visors and chinstraps but aren't so much so that they can be easily folded up and placed in a pack or pocket like their Heer counterparts.
