    Jim,

I have a question about the piping. Is it genuine metal metallic piping, or is it a synthetic coating that looks metallic with a cloth core and is not cold to the touch? Thanks,

    Richard

      Richard,
I believe its metallic. I tried to tell if its cold to the touch. Theres so little surface area that my test was inconclusive. Here are 2 detailed pics of the piping. As best I can tell you have metallic leaf? wrapped around individual strands of threads. These metallic threads are then woven into the cloth core.Very complex from what I can tell. I've burned tested the whole thing and its all natural fibers. Maybe a mix of rayon/wool. WR Jim

PS It looks more silver in the picture. To the naked eye it apppears silver/grey.

            Jim,

Thank you very much for posting the great detailed close up photos of the piping. Yours appears to be an even different type than I have encountered. They may prove very useful in my quest.

              Gent's,

              Is it?....Could it be?

Pay particular attention to the top button hole on the front flaps, the button hole construction, field grey buttons and the insignia. Cut of the hat looks almost identical.

Even in the old photo, the actual wool material of the cap, to me, appears to be the same. WOW.
