Mr Singer nice to here from you again , still waiting for a nice camo helmet from you hope you still enjoy my M 43 panzer hat .
This hat was really found in the trash with an Italian jacket and shirt here in southern CA by a friend and long time collector that has no interest in telling fake stories.
As you know I'm a helmet not a hat collector but this one like the hat you got from me is 1000% the real think.
    My best

Did you make these caps as a future business leaders of america project in your youth??? ...Billbert
Or the devil made me do it..Home Ec ??
A WAF group ?? What would you make of two variations of sweatband..ersatz brown leather and grey leatherette in the cloth
AND a variation of same hat in green coastal artillery HBT..
      I owned that 1 example..
More fun than stamps and coins i say again...Billbert

        Hello Giorgio!

Being found in a trash can there would obviously be No room for one to entertain doubts as to it's originality! You have had some nice Original hats, Never cheap when you sold them! I am sure this was priced in a similar fashion?

Stories will be what they may and have never concerned me overly, unless the item justified hearing it; and alas I am afraid, in this case (for me) it does not.

        With regards,
        B. N. Singer
PS. As I know nothing of helmets, I will hope you do not hold out hope of my turning up an example for such an advanced collection as yours.

          Hi Bill,

Sweatbands?, well, two different types, does that make them Original?
How about them coming in several different linings you could ask??? And I would answer the same.

Sorry, I cannot comment on a hat that I have never seen. Any chance of getting some pictures for me?

            Gent's

How does this hat eagle compare to the one on the M43 hat? I see some similarities.

I have actually known of 3 variations of sweatbands in these hats. Grey, brown and black.

                    Glenn,

Not an exact match, but very similar in design. The green eagle was certainly based on the blue one or vice versa. Here are some comparison pics. WR Jim

                            Hi Jim,

Very similar indeed (how the heck do you do that anyway?) Most probably foreign manufacture and not German.

If these hats were reproduced then why not put a more believable insignia on them?

Most of the reproduction hats I have seen have had accepted original insignia applied.

                              Glenn,

If you go through the complete thread there are a number of eagles very similar in construction. The big problem is finding a wartime pic that clearly shows this style in wear. Its hard to find the bevo on dark green being worn by a officer. If you look back theres a very similar one shown on a field grey wool backing.

I use Microsoft Office Publication 2003 to do the comparison pics.

To show how difficult it is to make comparisons with wartime pics, heres a pic that might be similar to the trap on the hats. Unfortunately it doesn't have enough detail to draw a conclusion. Jim
