Hi Wolffen, here is a M40 pattern Waffen SS Infantry feldmutze from my collection. This picture is small, but it shows the correct regulation SS insignia. This would be just the same on a black Panzer feldmutze. If the cap you are looking at is different from this, then it is not good.
Hope this helps you?

Hi Wolffen, the white insignia is called a "Soutach" this shows that the man was an Infantry soldier. Each arm of service wore a different colour, Pink for Panzer, Lemon Yellow for Signals, etc.
The cap does not need to have a soutach, as these were discontinued later in the war.
Ink stamps and lables are very easy to fake! Ink stamps are cheap to make.
I would recommend that you buy a new book about cloth headgear if you are interested in collecting caps. It is called "The collectors guide to cloth Third Reich military headgear" by Gary Wilkins. You can buy it here:

overseas cap
Wolffen,
Here is an example of original SS m40 panzer
<h2> INSIGNIA </h2>
<h2> CAP </h2>
Next, here is a bad reproduction offered on Ebay or Epier last year. See if you can notice differences between the two.
Stamps are easily faked. Look at the cap construction and the insignia.
<h2> CAP </h2>
<h2> SKULL </h2>
<h2> EAGLE </h2>
Please post picture of your cap for comparison! Although the images of original are of an officer's white piped field gray m40 with a pink panzer soutach, the cut of an enlisted m40 cap should be the same as this. Original SS caps were not cut the same as the luftwaffe version. The top center seam on the SS cap was offset to the right. The cap's front peak closest to center should be slightly higher than the the peak toward the offset. The side skirts should have a sexy curve with the highest point of curve 2/3 to the rear of the cap.
Note the bone and eye structure of the reproduction skull I have posted. Also the strange body and head on the eagle. Finally observe that the eagle has no feet (talons). Then take a good look at the beautiful original BEVo insignia on the officer's version.
There is no comparison between the two!
