    Dr Franke & Co 1944 Heer Buckle‏

I have been putting my Heer examples together and found what I believe is a good catch.

The condition is not the best but for the year 1944 I am not too bothered.

It still has some decent field gray paint in places. I have looked but have not found any 1944 marked examples.

All comments welcome and please post any 44 dated examples. Thank you

IMO, you have a very rare 1944 buckle. The stamping of the Dr. Frank and Co is correct and the first I have seen from 1944. Was this a ground find or a water find? My guess is this was produced early in 1944 before the combined Allied bombings over the industrial cities of Germany. Of all the buckles I have in my collection I do not have a 1944 marking - at least I don't think I have one. You have a definite keeper.

          KC1 ,

Thank you for your reply! It was almost covered with red rust I think from just some really poor storage. I picked it up at show and it was pretty ugly in the riker mount, The condition is probably what kept people from even looking at it.

I have seen one other 44 example by LM 44, this company was somehow tied to Aurich with their heer flak badges and the late war buckles I have seen the configurations are the same just different marks.

This one still has some field gray paint remaining. I can overlook the condition for that 1944 . Am hoping this generates some posts for others?

          Thanks again

Are you sure it is 1944 dated? It could be 1941 too...

The marking would be better if it was more clear for sure and 41 would correlate.

In hand it is more visible .

This is a rotated shot posted earlier it may help demonstrate that. To make sure I wasn't grasping at straws I showed to a number of other collectors with my loop and it was a unanimous vote in their hands 44.

                  following a private mail request for my opinion on this item , I confirm it is a good buckle; Not a fake;
As for the date, of course i do not have it in hands but i see no reason this buckle could not be a 44 dated one.
44 dates are scarce but not unheard of.... I used to have a few of them in my collection myself; included the same as the one posted here.
There exist 44 dated SS buckles to !

                    Nice buckle

Late comer here. I had this buckle in my hand at the show when he got it, definitely 1944. Looks much better in hand!

The number 4 is not writed the same way by americans and europeans.
Americans are using a "closed" 4 whereas european are using an "open" 4.

I am convinced that is one is dated 1941.

Marc, have you kept pictures of the buckles you had dated 1944? I am interested to see the Heer, LW or KM ones. Thanks in advance.

                            Simon

Buckle is no doubt original and a typical Franke design buckle and as all have stated if 44 dated very rare and interesting buckle
