"Tiger" in film?

    "Tiger" in film?

    Hi,

    Can anyone tell me on which tank chassis the "Tiger" was built in that well-known classic "Dead Snow 2"? It has a strange hole under the main gun mantlet so not very shell-proof and if the "interior" shots were to be believed also has the properties of a Tardis!

    I only watched this zombie-fest to try to answer this question posed by a friend whose film tastes are not necessarily of the highest quality!

    Not familiar with the one in particular you are refering to, but many copies have been built on Russian T-34 chassis.....Bodes

      Not a fan of Nazi Zombie flicks either, but I had to check it out to see the Tiger.
      I believe it's a mock up built on a relatively modern Soviet tank and not a T-34.

        From the photos it looks like a T-55 chassis.

          Thanks for your help guys - I re-ran "Saving Private Ryan" again today and the zombie Tiger seemed to have a different layout to the T34 modified by Steve Lamonby for the Spielberg film.

          Each time I watch "Ryan" my annoyance with the Cpl Upham character reaches new heights - of all the squad, he should've been the first to get the chop!

          I know - it's only a film - there are far more serious issues to worry about.

            Yeah, there's a distinctive gap between the first and second bogie wheel....Some thing the T-55 has but not found on the T-34....Bodes

              No glass vision block to protect the driver, that 55 gallon drum lid for a hatch, I was like even when I first saw the movie in 1998...why would you put so much effort into such a great film only to crap out on obvious things like those? SGT Rock comic books used as reference material perhaps? the opening landing scenes will always be the best part of this movie. And yes, Upham really does get more and more annoying as one rewatches this film.

                The tank in Dead Snow 2 is a T 55 with a modified turret from an Abbot SPG.
                Compared to many other replicas it looks quite good.

                As I was told it was built in UK after the film Saving Ryan, to make a better looking tank that could be used in films, but there were no more films that needed Tiger tanks at that time som after a few years the tank was sold and it ended up in Sweden where it belongs to a private collector.
                He probably thought that he could make money from hiring it to different events, films etc, but as far as I have been told it was no success. Only one film.

                    Thanks for all the extra info - funnily enough Valhalla I only noticed the flimsy hatch on my latest viewing but the driver's viewing port passed me by, I can't claim to be a Panzer buff.

                          The Sgt Rock comics always had someone crouched on the tank and firing a Thompson right into the drivers slit, with that being just an opening with no protection at all. I almost laughed out loud in the theater when I saw that!
                          There were/are numerous other technical issues with that film but still, overall, its a great movie.

                            "Tiger" in film?

                            To finish off on "Ryan" there was a programme some time ago raising the issue of errors in the film and I think the landing craft were the wrong type. The other issue, demonstrated quite graphically, was the guy being shot under water. They showed that a bullet fired into water, even at closer range than that depicted in the film, loses its energy too quickly to cause fatal injury.

                            I'm sure another movie buff can supply the next answer - some time after watching "Ryan" I'm sure I saw in an earlier film, possibly black and white, another typist being railroaded into action.
