Elefant & Possibly Sturmtiger to the UK - April 2017

For anyone interested, next year the Tank Museum at Bovington will be opening a new exhibition centered around the Tiger tank family with the loan of the Elefant from the US Army Ordnance Training and Heritage Center collection and also possibly a Sturmtiger:

Thanks for posting this mate, much appreciated.

A long journey for me too but gonna be worth it.

Perhaps an informal WAF meetup could be arranged?

I was at the museum today and asked the staff to confirm the attendees. I was told that the Sturmtiger won't be making an appearance.

To bad, as they could have shipped both tanks together form the US. Or as second plan, bring the one from germany - I am sure they will not say "no" when the "Elefant" will go there, after being shown at Bovington.

Worked with the "Tiger I", too, several years ago. It traveled from one german museum to another for years.

I'm not sure if you guys realize it or not, but the Aberdeen Sturmtiger was given to Munster many years ago. So the only 2 Sturmtigers in the world are at Munster and Kubinka. There is no Sturmtiger for us to loan Bovy as we already gave it away.

Won't it be the Weald Collection JagdPanther?

There was one in Koblenz, too - same one?

Must have been. Those are the only two that survived the war.

As the WTS in Koblenz, the Museum in Munster, the museum in Dresden as well as well as the institues in Trier and Meppen (...) are all parts of the German Armed Forces they are exchanging objects quite frequently with only the three exihbitions open to the public on regular base. Trier, Meppen and others are test institues with own workshops which were involved in vehicles restauration for many years. All three Panthers - for example - were restored in Trier with the BErgepanther staying incompleted as the shut-down of the budgets reduced the available manpower for those projects to the absolute minimum.
The closing of the WTS is discussed for years as it is a kind of archive insitute of the former BWB, the procurment agency of the Bundeswehr, and many of the book-keepers don`t see the need for such a collection in future projects. Some years ago the collection should be converted into a new museum similar to the Munster museum which is ran by both Bundeswehr and town. But this never becam reality due to never ending budgetary discussions.

The fact that many of the Wehrmacht vehicles were taken from display in Koblenz is due to the fact that Koblenz is - as said - a kind of archive for studies on the development of military goods with a focus on prototypes or trial vehicles with only some special vehicles of regular production...

I have a Premium Ticket for Tiger day 2017. So should be fun to get to see inside the Tiger 131 and Panther Ect. Missed the Premium Ticket last year as they sell out fast.
