    Hello everybody,

i can not comment on the uniforms of Simon because i haven t seen them with my own eyes, their might be all originals with real insignias, but i know from my own collecting that a lot of uniforms surfacing in Germany were denazified after the war, in most allied pow camps there were orders that all insignias have to be removed even KM buttons.

i have found many uniforms without any insignias mostly EM, most uniforms that appear with original insignias are those of Officers our senior NCOs who always had a couple of them hanging at home.

this of course does not mean that all EM WH uniforms are found without insignias, but you can say a majority, dealers our collectors have applied the missing pieces later.

remember that SS insignias were not something you went into a POW camp with, if you had time to remove them you would have it done before being taken as POW.

as a WH tunic collector over the last 20 years, i had only got a few EM tunics ( im talking about combat tunics) with absolutely 100% untoched insignias, most insignias have been added later.

for me it not a big deal if i know the tunic has been altered after WWII, but it has to be with 100% original insignias. I have lost hope to find untoched EM tunics.

for General uniforms , it s so rare to find originals in Germany, most General insignias have been added to normal officer tunics.

ask every German tunic collector how rare it is to get a general tunic with original applied insignias to it, and i mean a uniform that comes out of a veterans family and not a dealer.

i prefer to collect the normal WH tunics then the higher priced stuff, this is just because there is to much money involved and to much to loose if you dont know what you are doing.

this is my own opinion, of course i might be all wrong with what i m saying.

    best regards to all.

    Alex

      Hi Willi,

Can't guess the cost on the Keitel's tunic - but the Collector's Guild had one of Manstein's uniforms (to include tunic, cap and overcoat as I remember) for about $40,000 some time ago. I would be surprised if Keitel's went for much more...in fact it would likely be well less.

Many would be certainly worth a tremendous amount is so. I see what they cost and who owns them, the few that can be encountered. My gut tells me something is wrong here. I would certainly apologize to Simon for my thinnly veiled challenge on this forum if my instincts are proven to be incorrect. But, I have not heard anything yet that would lead me to believe I am incorrect.

Now we see Keitel's tunic. KEITEL! I suspect that an uniform as such, knowing of other personality tunics, would easily fetch beyond $100,000. Would an original such as one of these be passed around at Beltring???

        Willi
This is ridiculous, it wasn't passed around at Beltring, I have had it in my collection for two years, I was handing it over to an intermediary at the show, the US guy bought it with the provinance which I have copies of sitting in my pc. Its about 30 pages of letters and documents copied from the original sale in germany,4 books from the Keitel/Blomberg library, the original uniform case, his EK1. There is even a copy of a letter sent from him to his wife from his cell before his hanging sorry but you are really wrong here.

It's amazing how it always the more 'knowledable' members with 1 post or 5 posts and without a real name that step up to defend the bad stuff. Tell me, what is so fantastic about a collection with tunics that have fake insignia? You can read more below, if you want to understand where I'm coming from...John

Perhaps you can share with us some pictures of your collection then, and of course introduce yourself to us. Don't be shy..John

P.S. You are correct in that number posts is not indicative of knowledge, but in cases such is this it does indicate an agenda.
