    Panzer II Ausf B

Was the above titled tank ever used by the germans in the North African/Libyan campaing? thanks!

yes...but it was deemed obsolete, and they even used cz t34's among others.

Type lll was refitted with larger guns, but their tanks weren't as important as the 88 in destroying enemy vehicles.

        PzII:

That PzII was used in NA. The one at APG was captured there. Let me know how that Dragon PZII model is. I build 1/6th scale armor. Saw it was out but haven't had time to check it out yet. Dirk

There are actual films taken by rommels troops on you tube i believe, so i would seek out photos of them during the period, (although they are in black and white) then paint them to match. I believe their main use was observation as scout vehicles...seems to me they were used in russia too. Post your model after you finsh....

The main problem I have with the Dragon version of the Panzer II is that it is of the much rarer bow shaped hull. This was manufactured on the earlier IIB's but were uparmored and upgraded by 1941.

Here is a good discussion on someone that has done this already.

                  Hello Scott

Most PzKw II in Afrika were the c model, but there were both the a & b models too. The Regt Doctor of the 5th Pz Regt. 5th LT Div DAK, rode in a PzKw IIb in March/April '41. 25 PzKw Ib, 45 PzKw IIa,b,c , 60 PzKw IIIf,g & 17 PzKw IVd,e were in the original 5th Lt Div DAK. It was with these forces that Rommel overan all of Libya in early '41, though only 38 Pz made it to Tobruk by Easter April 14 .... Before the 15th Pz Div was added in May.

The camo scheme was the original grey with RAL 8000 gelbbraun applied in a thin coat of patches instead of stripes. It did have the "palm tree" on the side hull and the letters RA with the Serpent & Staff on the side turret...

See Thomas Jentz work "Tank Combat in North Afrika" page # 99 for a photo of this Pz.

No doubt there Panzer IIB's around, however, by this time of the war, the frontal armor should have been upgraded from the bow shaped front (that Dragon depicts) to the more box-like conventional front.
