Hi Ironcrown
Let's see if somebody is so good to find out what this piece is
Of course I already identified it (Easy for me: I knew what was in the place where I found it!), just want to play a bit with you
I found it personally here in Italy some years ago, on the Gothic line...
so you either found some more Panther parts or it came from a Gothic line Panzerstellung with Pantherturret
ciao

Very cool about the Pantherturm armour, nice find!
Hi Herring.
Here's the link to the Pantherturm that I located in the lower area of the Futa Pass and the photos that Herring superimposed on Google Earth screengrabs.

I too would like to know the location of the second PT.
Cheers,
Tom.

Herring,
Although most did not have the turret roof extractor some of those fitted as PT's did have the roof fan.
For example, the photos below have the extractor fan and armour crescent.
The armoured ring that surrounds the basic, low profile PT hatch actually goes all the way around the hatch except for the hinge area. It is also welded in place and not bolted.

Hello,
Simply ausf. D and ausf A turrets had ventilation on the roof, festung version (Panther-Ostwallturm) did not have it.
You are right about ring around Ostwallturm hatch - it's welded - I didn't check pictures before.
It means, that element shown above is from another turret, what proves that there were 2 turrets! Apparently another turret was D or A version.
Although, according to Jentz & Doyle drawings, there should be 7 bolts, not 5 as it is in the sample. I guess the element is broken?Last edited by herring; 05-12-2011, 05:51 PM.

Herring,
Oh, I see what you were saying, you were refering to the PT in my link.
I didn't realise this and was just saying, in general terms, that there were many subtle differences from one PT to another. The two PT's at Futa no doubt had different turrets, the lower specifically for a PT and the higher up PT taken from tank production.
It's definately not the PT in my link as Ironcrown said the second PT was up by the German cemetary
Cheers,
Tom.

Being stored in military area in Czarne; it was under a sort of restoration (sand blasting + painting with non-historical colours). It still needs a solid piece of restoration, including fixing the gun carriage (badly bended). I guess it will be transfered in future to a new made museum in Stettin.
