Hi Dennis,

The Jagdtiger 331 in the front? There's been discussion over the years on Missing-Lynx about this one, and the other APG tanks. I find it hard to search on Missing-Lynx, but I found a few threads.

The concensus seems to be that all these at APG (Jagdtiger 331, Tiger II 332, Sturmtiger, Jagdpanther anyway) were repainted shortly after the war, and that none of the early color photos show the original paint. There are some dissenters with some very good opposing opinions, generally centered around the fact that (in the case of Tiger II 332 at least) the repaint jobs are very good; better than most if not any other early museum paint jobs. After a study of Tiger II 332 I'm still convinced that the color photo taken inside sometime after 1951 is a repaint; the pattern does not exactly match b/w photos of the tank taken in 1944.

Of the heavy tanks I think that the only one at APG that wasn't repainted early was Tiger II 121 of s.SS-Pz.Abt. 101 knocked out in Normandy - the one that's at Panzermuseum Munster now.

I know it was found by the British troops at Haustenbeck in May 45, but I don't know if it's still around or not.

Based on the two photos posted by Michael, I would have to say that 331 at Aberdeen was not in its original camo scheme

That vehicle most likely met the same fate as the hull for the E-100 found by the british, right down the melting pot.

I was lucky enough to sit through a lecture by Jentz and Doyle on paint used by Germany and they belever that was a repaint as there is a squair patch on the frount showing the origional paint scheme
