    Wound Badge weight

    Hi guys,

    What is the approximate weight of a solid tombak Silver Wound Badge? I have one in my hands that weighs in at c. 41g. Seems quite heavy. Is that too heavy?

    Many thanks; I don't know too much about WBs and appreciate your help.
    Best regards,

      Hi Blued,

      Many thanks for your reply and for the information

      My SWB is marked "21" for Gebr. Godet. I can get some photos up this weekend.

      Are any other accepted originals in the 40g range?

      Thanks for any replies.
      Best regards,

        Hi Trevor,

        i had to check my "heavies" and they don´t reach the 40g range

        My reached "only"

        L/11 GWB 35,10 gr
        L/11 SWB 35,50 gr
        11 SWB 36,50
        11 (marked L/11) GWB 36,90 gr

        All those are bunt badges

        It will be interesting to see you finding when the photos are posted!
        Regards

          Hi Hans,

          Many thanks for always helping me in the WB forum.

          Unfortunately I already know your opinion of this piece, since it was discussed here. I bought this piece from the original owner, knowing it is a controversial piece.

          Please let me know if I'm correct in these statements:
          • This type is also known marked [L/50] and L/12;
          • Chris V. and Andreas Klein like this type, Hans does not;
          • There exists another L/12 marked WB in buntmetall that is considered original;
          • No other known original WB types exist marked 21 or L/50.

          Couple questions now:
          • Are any other known original WBs as heavy as 41g?
          • Are any other marks besides L/12 and [L/50] known on of this same type of WB?

          Really appreciate your help

              Hi Trevor,

              for a L/12, L/50 and 21 badge your weight is textbook and i accept your posted 21 badge exactly as it is as original.

              To your additional questions:

              1. Are any other known original WBs as heavy as 41g?

              No, they are all below 40g.

              2. Are any other marks besides L/12 and [L/50] known on of this same type of WB?

              I haven't seen any other maker mark on this design.

                Hi Andreas,

                As always, thank you for your valuable help and opinion.

                Can you tell me if there are any other WBs known marked 21 or L/50, but of a different design?

                Thank you.

                    Here is another "textbook" for you Andreas. Same design but a more wear to the dots but this one has another maker on it! The hardware also matches the other "textbook" specimens but this features another type of catch. Not the best pics and unfortunatly the only i have

                        Interesting badge Hans and as allready said by you not the catch you will find on the 21, L/50 and L/12 marked examples.

                        Do you know the maker code on the backside?

                        edit: saw that you added it - thanks.

                        Reminds of the "4" which was shown on the IAB in Tucker's book.
                        Best regards, Andreas

                            I agree with Hans regarding these badges, weak rounded details
                            no fold mark on the bend of the needle, the "strange scratched" surface on the back.

                            Cheers,

                              Hi Hans and Ronny,

                              Thanks again for your opinions.

                              I can answer one question: the 21 mark is not the same mark as found on the rings of EK2s, oakleaves, etc. It is close, but it's not the same.

                              I appreciate everyone's help and input.
                              Best regards,
