    Battle damaged badge in gold

    Hello,

Here is a battle damaged wound badge in gold I would like to share. It was recovered from a former battle position in the former Stalingrad area. It came from the Rossoshka sector. The badge remained connected despite the massive shrapnel impact.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Ill bet that one left a mark. Nice finds.....although the russians waited 50 years late to start digging for some of the zincers. They tend to break down when buried. I would enjoy detecting in the russian boonies, although it is quite dangerous due to mines and munitions still live.. We do it here for civil war, and other such searches like for buried or lost artifacts. Last year a virginia cannonball collector who digs...was working on a ball when it took his life....so digging for this stuff....can put you on the roles as a casualty of ww2...Like that guy was of the civil war. Like firing a japanese cast iron receivered training rifle with regular ammunition....without checking it first and ending up a victim . One must USE some grey matter when hunting , not LEAVE any.

Keep us posted if you find any more. We always enjoy seeing the authentic dug items..Thanks for sharing them.

                        .......

Cool. That poor little GWB never had a chance against the super heated flyng shrapnel.

I love these pieces, they tell the story of battle so vividly. I would love to get some items like that, but they are usually far to corroded, and it's hard to tell if it is battle damage or just corrosion.
                          Great wound badge.

                              Gwb

Reminds me of that scene in Saving Private Ryan when they are sorting thru the dogtags and one guy comes across the tag with the bullethole in it.

                              "Guess these aren't bulletproof."
