Hollow Gold wound badge

I recently seen this on a popular site and thought I'd get some opinions on this one. I know that these are highly debated. So I would like to start a dicusion on it. I'm not looking to buy it. I just thought it would be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks about it. To me this looks like a good one except I do not like the pin or the pin holding the pin (replacement IMO). If that makes any sence. It states on the site that it is a black wound badge but it only appears to have black coloration around the soldered areas. Maybe this is where the confusion around these comes from?

Me thinks it is just another case of a black wound badge that was tinkered with to look like a gold wound badge so it can be pawned off on an unsuspecting buyer for a ridiculous price.

I think so too but I don't know either. I do not see remnants of black finish anywhere. If you look at the second picture where the discoloration is, it appears to be normal solder, which over time has change color not only that but the finish is done well and shows wear which is peculiar. I started to think that maybe that the gold gilding was part of the manufacturing process in someway and maybe that's why some people are so adamant that they are real. But that's just an idea.

Yes, I read it. 3 times now to make sure I didn't miss anything and post too hastily. I don't really see where the discussion is though, perhaps I am not understanding this English properly.

I agree that the pin has probably been replaced, or at least polished / cleaned in a manner. I will also add that the catch and pin hinge assembly look just like the ones on some of my black wound badges as well.

That is because most people that strip these black wound badges to the base metal and shine em up to appear as gold ones apparently have a hard time getting all the black away from those areas. Every stripped badge I've seen has some black finish remaining around those areas in some way or amount.

No decent dealer with any sort of good reputation would knowingly pawn one of these off as a gold.

If it is clearly a black wound badge that was been tampered with like so many others than what is there to discuss?

The seller knows it, the buyer knows it.

Not saying they didnt exist. Here's one in my collection that IMO is 100% period. No stripped down jobbie here ...

There is still a massive debate on the hollow GWB's - in my opinion Ken's is a stripped BWB. I'm still not convinced that hollow GWBs existed - that said Darrell's WB is a very convincing arguement against that
