It looks like one of those "lovely" new fakes that have recently appeared eminating from Germany.

Mike, could you give some pointers on how best to spot a beat up/aged fake? I generally look for wear patterns and the appearance of rust (light or dark coloring) etc. But I know some fakers are wise to that.
        Thanks,
        Henry

If the BWB is one of these fakes (which I believe it is), then they can be spotted by:

          - flaking paint

          - when in hand there is a distinct smell to them (no it's not my smelly hands!)

          - the ageing is all wrong; the "rusting" is not the type you would see from a long period of oxidisation, the strange white/grey powdering effect is not what you would expect

          - these BWB's in particular feel wrong - I can't exactly expplain this - but when in hand they just do not feel right

          - the details of the BWB are soft.

I recently purchased 5 of these BWBs (for £5 for the lot) for research purposes. The person who was selling them would not tell me where he got them but was selling them as 21st century reproductions.

              Hi Mike,

your correct of course. It´s one of those new german fakes. These start to get out internationally, i saw them on a english dealer site in mass. I didn´t count them but i think i saw close to 10 of them.

I see that a few collectors will get burnt on this one. Any pictures
of one without the fake ageing.

Don, all the ones I have encountered have some form of faked ageing, the one posted by Hans is one of the more extreme examples I have seen.

                          Hi Don,

feel free to do so. We need to educate and inform others about the fakes in the War against the fakers.
