Looks like the text has been scratched on the back first, maybe it was done properly later?

lMO,this isn't inscripted war time but its just a modern add on by collectors/veteran himself.

The way it was done seems to be modern-machine engraved.
Also note the type of lettering used, doesn't match common used by germans during ww2.Just my thoughts

          regards

Sim, IMHO perfect explanation. IMHO it's not at all period; the font is wrong (I believe this font did not exist in the 1940's) and the "etching" is machine produced - not somthing that would have been done in war time years.

That's what I think, That font was not around then and the etching is to perfect IMO, in fact it kind of reminds me of the sort of font that was popular in the 70's. Maybe the vet winner did it for a momento!.
what a shame to do this to a nice old WB, and one that's not to common either. You don't see too many 107's with the small hinge about.

                Regards,
                Dan

I agree with Alex. The original wartime scratched inscription has been re-done post-war with some sort of professional engraving machine. It does not look recent though.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!
