Assmann Wound Badge

What do you guys think of this Assmann Wound Badge? I've never seen one before,
but based on the detail, manufacturing, hinge, catch and mark I am convinced of its authenticity.

Just when I thought I was starting to wrap up my wound badge collection...another variant shows up. That is a great find Lorenzo, I had never heard of Assmann manufacturing a wound badge. It has definantly been around the block. What grade was it originaly...hard to tell from the pictures. Do you know the history of this piece. Once again, Great Find!

Hi Jeremiah. It is a silver grade with most of the finish worn off. Like you and the others who have responded, I have never seen an Assmann Wound badge before, nor have I ever seen one listed. It's news to me!

I don't know the history since I got it from a well-known German dealer without provenance.

However, I have examined it closely and am convinced that it is authentic. Note the hinge, pin and catch are identical to those used on the Assmann PAB. Also, the details and ageing are WWII and the mark is correct and in the same style as Assmann's hollow-back PAB.

A nice looking badge. I don't recall seeing one like it either but I can't see anything of concern. I too would like to know whether it is steel or zinc and whether that is a remenant silver finish on it? Very interesting!

Hi Mike. The remaining finish is definitely silver. The badge weighs 10 grams; height is 44.1 mm and width is 37 mm.....but it is slightly "tweeked", so plus .1-2 mm.

The material appears the same as my Assmann hollowback PAB which I believe is buntmetal. Also noted is that both catches are soldered directly to the badges without a plate....so probably not zinc. Both badges have a dull, dark greyish-green patina that display a silver-grey base metal where it is worn. Also, both marks are in relief.

I have heard before for Assmann WB's but i haven't seen one of them, it is a rare maker for these awards.

I contact with Carsten and this badge in review is come directly from the son of the owner, Carsten is one of the best guys.


PS: Who got the black WB maker marked "80" from Carsten before six months?
