Dear VerKuilen, may I be allowed to quote you:
"Verdigris is the result of a permanent chemical change, the equivalent of the rusting of steel and attempts to remove it will leave a depression in the metal, scratches, or a shiny spot. You'll want to verify this, but my recollection is that stabilization can be done with judicious application of ammonia or acetone. Then the piece should be kept away from moisture. which promotes copper/bronze oxidation."
Extremly interesting, as many of us fellow members have a tinnie/ medal/ badge, insignia... that needs some special care.
Ammonia or acetone... is there one product that does better with a special sort of metal?
I had heard that once oxydation starts, stains will ever remain. You chose the word "stabilization", it means that even with acetone or ammonia you can't completly clean the item, can you?
Best regards
Gilles
