It is very sad what Germany has come to .... again. Between burning books and declaring them "propaganda" and confiscating
is no big difference IMHO. If the mind controller of the highly educated customs decides that this book is threatening the very foundations of the German Federal Republic you can tell him that my books and my person were already checked by the Staatsschutz in Mannheim and declared "bedenkenlos"
By the way, there is no duty on books in Germany, "only" Einfuhrumsatzsteuer.

I don't think so that money is soo much in need of Germany as no one is so wealthy ...
And I assume there is no law they cannot hand you out the book.

Don't see a law against it as you can buy anything as well from dealers auction houses or at shows.
Only once I got to visit our loval custom office as no custom label was attached to the packet box.
But it's also pending about the value, not sure out of my head but it can be only like 40 or 50 Euro when I am not wrong.

Sad I missed the time frame of the book otherwise could make a good contribution in the GPP section.

Robert, i had "Greece" in mind with that comment
OK i get that, we have the same here, but they dont make anyone go anywhere, we just get the goods with a "nachnahme" invoice for the import tax. Unless of course someone sent me a helmet declared as "Raspberry short cake, then they would open it, otherwise as long as there is a CN22 sticker on the front, Bobs your Uncle.

Hope they dont add the book onto their "Liste des schädlichen und unerwünschten Schrifttums"

Wim, I'm surprised there is a duty owed on a book. In the US books come in duty free. Obviously, to further the spread of knowledge.

Yes they are tax exempt here as well. Maybe this is just a general EU rule that anything imported over a specific stated value is taxable? Wim, if it helps you any, your name is mentioned under credits - €18.- , a small price to pay for fame & fortune

                Hi all,

                Finally I received the book.

A friend of mine went to collect it and didn't have a Problem at all. Customs didn't make him to open the packet. Just paid 7 Euros something.

Still it is a Pity that a book in 2013 has to be sent like that.

I would like to thank Dietrich for sending me the book with care and answer me in a very positive way.

And also, of course, I would like to thank Jo for his effort and work with this book. Looking forward to read it and, it looks great.

                Best Regards

                Antonio

Book looks great. No problems with customs when the book was send. Only four days (send by Jo from Helvetia with nice dedication). No extra tax-charge. No problems with the cover!
                  Thanks for the credit.

Not a single comment on the content yet, folks ?

I am working my way ... into it. Tough read with long, convoluted sentences. But not as tough as Mein Kampf. Thanks, Jo !

                        "must have"

An old tired phrase, but seriously, it's like this. This book is a must have for any WWII German militaria collector. If you ride motorcycles, the one to get is a Harley-Davidson. If you love watches, you must have a Rolex. If you are into food, you must dine French. If you collect Nazi militaria, you must have at least one party badge, and more importantly, the information contained in this book. Beware, you will never look at your collection the same again. Fakes are everywhere and Jo lays it out.

Got the Brick today. No other militaria reference comes close in terms of scholarship, technical analysis, and sheer eye-opening truth. The information contained is completely valid and relevant in other areas of collecting. Tired of being "burned" by fakes??? This book shall set you free. And trust me, this is just the tip of the ice berg. Not some picture book that any 5th grader can skim through in one sitting. This one is a "monster!" Packed, packed, packed packed with info, guidance and WISDOM.

The sheer volume of variants to the party badge is just mind numbing. Jo Rivett has opened up a whole new line of collecting. But more importantly, his quest for the truth is his key contribution. A lifetime achievement. If you thought Thomas Wittman was a pioneer for daggers collectors, Jo Rivett has made a name for himself as the "Mark Twain of militaria" as in a seeker of Truth and Wisdom. And to think that this legend has written a book in English which is NOT his native language; wow!!! his talent just blows me away.

                          LOL, Gruisig scheen demfau Merci!
Glad that the "message" has been picked up on - by at least one soul so far.
Indeed no point in "flipping through" and trying to understand [portions of] it, it needs to grabbed by the horns and read from cover to cover.
