    SS Stickpin - Opinions Please

    Hi Everybody,

I recently acquired this - SS Stickpin; based on comparisons with known Hoffstaetter originals, I believe it to be okay.

And for the record, there is the hint of an umlaut over the 'A' in Hoffstaetter.

    Anyway, all comments welcome.

    Thanks and all the best,
    Toby.

    And the reverse:

The marks (IMHO) compare well with known originals.

I don't remember where, but some guy was selling 2 of those with consecutive serial numbers.

I havent held one of these in my hand, but it does look like the others I have seen around the web here and there.

See the way the circle isn't uniform in width around the border, and the edges of the runes arent perfectly straight? That is a good sign. The fake I saw before was too perfect.

        Just my 2 cents worth

This copies the original style...ie is not the one with raised lettering that is suggested as being fake....but....there are also good repros of these in the correct style as pictured. There are also really great copies of the FM badges that copy exactly known originals...

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

@ Steven, I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting. Are you saying that you believe it be repro? If so, what are your reasons for asserting this? Do you have a photo of such a repro?

As I said, I have compared it against known originals (there's a big thread about this on another forum), and IMHO, this looks good.

            Best regards,
            Toby.

              HI Toby:

I am not suggesting that this is a repro. What I am suggesting is that there are really good repros out there that are accepted as original. I do not have one in hand but viewed some about two years ago at a show. At that time I did not have an original in-hand at the show to compare with the repros to look for minute differences in features...in fact the copies looked quite good save for the new appearance. I remember thinking at the time that the copies were quite well executed (I saw this along with a copy SS FM badge that was correct) and that with chemical aging they would sadly pass as real.

I wish that somebody would post pictures of the quality copies so that we can see what to look for when comparing the pieces with an original.

                Hi Steven,

Many thanks for clarifying. You're absolutely right, what we could do with now, are some pics of these repros. It would be an excellent study, esp. if we could nail these down.

                Anyone have any pics?

                All the best,

                Toby.

                  Hi Toby,
Try posting this in the SS forum. You may get more definitive answers.
