If that's you opinion, that's fine. I still say that only a hands on inspection will tell the truth. But if it is fake 1) it's the first I've seen of this particular tinnie and 2) it's anything but bad as the details are far too close. I suspect there are distortions in the photos because of the scan/photos, lighting, angle etc...

Military, any chance we could a photo of the reverse (not a scan)?

        Dear ETN,

I dont have a photo of the reverse, but i've been told that its marked as Carl Peters schmalkalden.

        Regards,
        Mil

My 2 cents, the Schmalkalden SS tinnie looks good from the front. Here is mine...a little dinged up. Also Carl Peters.

Here are the last three of mine. I presume someone found a box of them and dispersed however many there were circa 1991 when I got mine. They are thin brass, die struck and plated.

57th SS-Standarte (Thüringer Wald) was based in Meiningen. The area is the current Kreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen. This is in the region near Dresden.

imm sorry its wrong and a nogo imo, wrong metal gives it away - coted alu or tin of some sort whit a hardcore edge- whit beded letter, detail a bit better on this one but of my knowledge not from this orig. maker, sadly. be carefull guys theres alot of fakes arround of this badge, scarey and sadly too.

                    cheers guys

Could you post a close up, straight shot of the front of one of your tinnies, please?

I'd really like to get to the bottom of this.

Here's a couple of images of another tinnie from the group. It's not one of the three previously posted but they are straight-on shots as requested.

OK, I've taken each image supplied in this thread and composed them side by side.

On the fronts we have (clockwise): Carsten, Military, PaulJ, Curt

On the backs (from left to right): Carsten, Curt, Paulj

Supposedly, the examples posted by Military and Curt are fake, while the examples posted by Carsten and PaulJ are original.

What do other members think now?
