        Hi Eric,

this pin, you show, is a simple stickpin, that you (still today) get, when you donate some blood to the red-cross. Nothing spectacular, but the letter is quite interesting:

        roughly translated:

        "In the field, 25.2.44

        Dear Mrs. Lorenz,(?)
today i can send you the German Cross in Gold, that was given to him from our Führer. Unfortunately it wasn´t possible, that he could wear it to his lifetime.

        with the best wishes
        ???? ????"

        Hope, this helps.

best wishes and have a nice christmas and a great new year
        Gerd

          Eric....
do you have additional documents?...you mentioned an award certificate.
i agree with Gerd...this letter is pretty sweet. Did your friend get this from the family?
you may want to pursue this, as i would think if you can identify the gold cross holder, this would have some value.

Thank you very much for your help, I only know that these two pieces are coming from the same family, they kept them together for a long time, I think they are both from the war.
Gerd, you said that today there was the same, are they exactely the same?

Best regards and best wishes for this new year

Eric, here are the stickpin, that were given nowadays.
They were given for 10, 25, 50, 75, 100 or more. It isn´t impossible, that you have a pre-war-stickpin, but i assume, that is hard to proof. I don´t really know, if this kind of stickpin was already issued pre-war.

                best wishes,
                Gerd
