    Gold Party Badge and Case

    Hi All!

I purchased the recent mixed set and case that many of you may have seen on estand. The case includes expertise but I know someone had said they wanted better pictures and to discuss it. The bigger issue I have is with the large GPB that was included in the set. As I think someone pointed out, it is damaged, but it is also coated/sealed in some type of polyurethane or the like. It may be hard to see in these pictures but it is completely sealed over the enamel and you can even see a drop of whatever it was sealed with near the ribbon. Has anyone else seen anything like this? I am worried about how much this hurts the value and the pin overall. Any opinions would be appreciated.

    Yours in Service,

    Jason

I have never seen a sealant put on a badge like that. The badge is original but too bad that it was messed with.

                Hi Jason

When I saw the images on the estand, I thought it was just a case of bad photographs and some reflection.

It is very odd to have done such a thing and I would say that it would hurt the value of the badge.

Was it not pointed out in the sales thread?

                Raymond

Unfortunately the seller says he was not aware that the coating was wrong. I'm debating what to do with it. I have a feeling that the tampering probably cuts the resale value in half.

Hi Jason ..I have another question re the case. I'm wondering if the Lid button shaft is threaded . If the inside can be lifted , pop it up and look at the button mechanism to see if it's threaded. If the lining is tightly glued in then (If you can ) try to "un-screw" the lid button slowly...it should completely unscrew.
The case you have has a flatter top and more squared look than what I've normally seen. That has me wondering.

here's a repro case ..to start , look at the larger "grain" of the leather and the flat top --

here's another style repro case out there with more squared off corners --

It is very doubtfull that the case is good. Is it right to say that such a case is more expensive then the badge itself? I thought they are EXTREMELY difficult to find!!! You see them sometimes by Burmeister, Wolf& Hardin and some prestigeous auction sales.

I'm not sure if this discussion is still in the right place or should be in cases, but here is a picture of the inside of the case and the letter of authenticity. Once again, all help is appreciated.
