Possibly you can enlighten the owner with the features of this piece that make it a repro. It is educational for all of the readers of this thread.

Without even looking at the back , you can tell by the front shot alone.
#1 - the "dash" between the words "National" and "Sozialistische" should not be floating in mid air between the words ---it should be overhanging the bottom of the "L"
#2 - Larger style Pin should have 9 leaves on each side of the wreath
#3 - There should not be any ribs or very pronounced spine on the leaves
#4 - The lettering and rings around edge/border of the enamel part should be silver , not gold
#5 - The shape of the "O" is wrong ..large Deschler used a round "O"
There are more points but , these are some of the first things I look for.
          Hope this helped

Here's the front of a real one so you can see the differences --

Okay, this seems to be an early repro. I believe this because I have seen fakes where they've corrected a lot of the mistakes mentioned. In addition to what was stated, there shouldn't be an "edge" to the planchet, the leaves and the "X" ribbon are all wrong, and the red enamel could be questionable (but not certain from the pics).

You're right Wizard ,The fakers are correcting a lot of old mistakes but ..luckily for us they still have a long way to go . ....weight, measurements ie size of lettering and front details leaves swas, angles and spaces between lettering , and the red enamel they use ...at today's prices ,soon we'll be doing SEM evaluations on these as well ...

                  Hi Mike,
Actually, weight is useless because the badge could be worn, enamel could be cracked, the pin could be replaced with new soldering. All this would change the weight on a legitimate badge.

As to the oakleaves and planchet, that is pretty easy to reproduce once you know what a real one should look like.

Measurements? Since these were supposidly hand made, each one would be unique. I don't think I have ever seen two GPB's that was exactly alike.

Lastly, I have seen really good red enameling. So that's no help anymore.

Hi ya Wizard ...the "planchet" and center still come from a die ..they were not hand crafted one by one ..that's why we can spot a JF with the RR tracks as opposed to a Deschler right off the bat...dif die.
I used a digital Scale once on my 2 small Deschlers and they came in almost right on.
One weighed 7.5 and the other 7.6
My Fuess came in at 8.0
My large Deschler was 13.7 (with EK1 style pin)
It would be very interesting to start comparing the weight of some others and see what we find.
Tonight I'll compare the wreaths and locate some tell tale die flaws

My compliments on educating all of us on what to beware of with this particular reproduction

Thanks Bob ...I was thinking Wizard ,Steve (GPB guy) myself and some others should start a new Thread documenting everything but , it's probably been done on the Forum before.
Here a some pictures comparing my 2 Deschlers measurements--
