Why would a Deschler box contain a Fuess badge?

The photos of the badges are too small to tell much, although a few things still stand out -

1) even though the badges are made by different manufacturers Deschler and Fuess, the stamped number is the same die, which is unlikely;

2) the number on the reverse is stamped and not pressed, and in a non-standard font;

3) the red enamel doesn't seem translucent enough, in spite of the desciption;

4) real fire gilding or the brass base metal of these badges does not tarnish like this. This indicates the wrong metals / finishes were used and they have been artificially aged. Cased badges should be particularly well preserved.

5) the oakleaves on the large badge look odd.

I'd stay far, far away.

Good eye, Richard - exactly. It actually looks like they've mistakenly used an uppercase "U" in "MUnchen" in creating the label. Unlikely Deschler would have made this mistake in a printed label.
