      Tiu Tyr

Hello. I do not know this tinny at all. But I do know that it would be very rare to have Nazi era '33 -45 tinnys (or anything else) associated with an obvious image of a pagan Heidnisch god. As you all probably know, there was high level NSDAP opposition against openly bringing back old gods with Hitler denouncing any "...vagrant scholar who worshipped Thor...,etc." But pre-'33, the pagan imagery was used more, and the various pagan and occult "Volkisch " groups were very much a part of the Conservative Revolution (includes Freikorps) that ushered in the Nazis. It could easily be a sports fest sponsored by a pagan group, as some were very health conscious. If it was nazi related--maybe a early SA sports fest?
Tiu/Tyr was one of the earliest Germanic / Scandinavian gods, at one time more powerful than Odin/Wotan. He had a warrior aspect and his weapon was the spear. Tyr's spear was symbolized by the shape of the Tyr rune. He later is associated with bravery and keeping one's word/honor at extreme personal sacrifice where he lost his hand to the wolf Fenris who later brings in the Ragnarok (end of the world ).

        Hello Michael,
        with thank from FRank ...
yes, this is a very mysteriously tinnie.
This thing should be found in a trench near Moscow.

hmmmm, my first idea was "SA sports fest" honour too.

I am sure that we find out this mystery.

        greetings from Unna

          Tyr tinny

Well.... if it was found in a trench in Moscow, and if it is not a Nazi sponsored/SA sports fest, then it was carried as a non-official "Good Luck/Lucky Charm". Pre WW II German scholars (and WWII Ahnenerbe or nazi scholars) all had books and magazines with archaeological finds of old spears, swords with magic runic inscriptions on them. Most often found runes on weapons are the Tyr rune and the Sig rune. I have read that German soldiers in WWI wore runic charms for good luck, also. So this could easily have continued with the Freikorps into the SA, etc.
