I've just acquired a small box full of badges, medals and tinnies. There were also alot of postwar hunting badges included. I'm wondering about 2 of them. They both are circular in shape and both feature a stags head with the skull at the bottom and the horns sweeping up around the outer edge. Badge one is smaller, is hollow backed and the snout of the skull and the antlers overhang the edge of the badge. There are no markings on the back. Badge 2 is half again as large as badge 1. it is solid backed , fairly heavy and marked ges. over gesch. over ST&L.on the back. It has a 25 in a circle at the top center of the badge. Both badges have a large D over JV at the center. Badge 2's skull and antlers are inside the badge and there is a heavy oakleaf wreath around the outside edge. There are no swastika's on either badge. Any idea's on these two? I apologize for lack of pictures. Thanks

Are you sure that it's a V & not a B? I'm not being funny, but in the font used on some Third Reich badges the capital B & V are extremely similar, Check out the imafe below. However, I think that it's use was discontinued after the war
If no one else here can help, PM me & I'll put you in touch with someone who I'm sure will know.
If you can get any pictures, that would help, & would be willing to post them for you.
Cheers

Yes, those were the badges I had in mind when reading your description. I reckon that you have the post war versions, the pre war types had a crucifix in place of the Swastika.

Here is a little history on the image used on the original Pre-Nazi hunters badge. Previous link was bogus. This one will work
