      Hi Dennis,

You sure are right about some of those being repros - the SS and the other round one are for sure - reverse says it all as well as the runes on the SS-one. However I wouldn't trash the miniratures just yet though the way the pins are attached to the miniratures doesn't look all that promissing. But atleast the pins are knurkled wich is a good sign - but not a dead give away. A close up of each would probably help.

Hmmm...the triangular shaped one I haven't seen yet. First thought was a "Fantasy piece"...Deutschland Erwache along with a Japanese flag and dated 1933...isn't that a bit early for an aliance between Germany and Japan or have I slept in history class However I must admit that I haven't seen any fantasy pieces with a near correct button back before - most fantasy pieces have very faulty hardware. Also the choice of metal looks correct to me and since I haven't seen any of those before (not offered en mass) there could be a slight chance for that one being genuine, but listening to my gut feelings I doubt it.

However we must not forget that things aren't always and only "black and white"

      Cheers,
      Carsten

The 2 round badges are definitely fake as they have the modern oval pin keepers.

Here is a picture of the jap badge that is currently on sale as a copy. Unfortunately, they don't say what fixing is on the back. However, there are differences as you can see.

I use a flatbed scanner for good closeups.

        Cheers

Camera issues: Use the "macro" setting and figure out how close you can get and stay in focus (usually 2-5 inches). Put layers of semi-clear Scotch tape over the flash to dull it down, or turn it off and use a desk lamp for lighting. For real close-up, you can actually put a magnifying glass (a jeweller's loop is best) over the lens and get great clear shots.

By the way, the Germ/Jap badge is a fantasy and the oval pinplate ones are also common fakes.

thanks for the help. the only one i thought mightbe real was the germ/jap one, when did they first start doing the rounds then ?

              it looks nice though.

i never understood the german alliance with japan anyway?
what did the germans get out of it ? War with the USA?

                  Peter,
As long as Stephen isn't online right now I'll answer your question first of there's no stupid questions but you do get stupid answers sometimes, here are the pins he was referring to.

Thanks James . Now that I look more carefully, I can see half of the badge in the left corner.
