Interesting - was he awarded a wound badge? I don't think I've seen him sporting one.

A good and astute comment, Sydney! To my knowledge, Göring was only wounded once during WWI, for which he would have received a Wound Badge in Black Grade, just as Hitler wore. So how would it look to have diamonds mounted to a Black Grade Wound Badge?!?! Perhaps to a Gold Grade, but NOT to a Black Grade!!

Guderian was partly inspired by the writings on mobile warfare, of Charles de Gaulle. Mostly ingnored in France, during the inter-war years, his ideas inspired in part Guderian's tactics.
During the invasion of France, de Gaulle led an armoured division and was able to achieve one of the only victories, by the French, in 1940.
As to Major John Lattimer, his history reads like a comic book hero.
He was a surgeon and declined going to the 1936 Berlin Olympics, as an athlete, because of his studies. He did get assigned to the airborne units of both the 82nd and 101st as a surgeon and set up the first field hospital in Normandy, on D-Day. His most memorable moment was when he was threatened with a gun, by a soldier who demanded he save his badly wounded buddy. The triage system hadinitially deemed him to far gone to save. Upon inspecting him, Lattimer proceeded to save him. The story has been known, but has been misquoted later as having happened during the Arnhem campaign.
He then joined Patton's staff in the push through France, into Germany. He was present when Patton took a piss on the bridge crossing the Rhine.
He was responsible for the closing down of the Dachau Concentration Camp.
He later became the medical officer in charge of the welfare of the accused at Nuremburg. He obtained many items that had belonged to the accused and, after Göring commited suicide, he kept the capsule container.
After the war, he ran a charity race against Jesse Owens, in Maddison Gdns, and beat him, setting a World record.
He became a ballistics expert and was asked by the Kennedy family to reopen the file on JFK's death. He concluded that there had only been one shooter and one of his 'party tricks' was to fire 3 shots on target with a Carcano rifle, in less than 8 seconds.
He also looked into the suspicious death of Hermann Hess and concluded that he had probably been killed by garroting.
Part of his huge collection of militaria was recently sold at Hermann Historica. However, less well known is the fact that his personal WWII uniforms were sold a couple of years earlier, also by Hermann Historica, without any fanfare. I was able to buy a few of them, including his Ike jacket.
One of his jackets (postwar M65 that he wore to veteran's meetings) has the unique feature of sporting both the 82nd and 101st Division badges.

Goring

Goring was certainly overweight, but the photo of the photo is photographed at an angle, giving the appearance he was grossly overweight. Notice how hitler's sleeve looks as wide as his head, and how little everyone's heads look. He was nowhere as overweight as this photo suggests, IMO. It's like when I take a photo of my dog, and his paws look bigger than his head.
