Nice sign. Yours is a wartime version. It's purpose was to phone the Traffic Assistance Service with accidents or other calamities, or even when drivers had trouble with their car.
What is it's size 58,0x58,0 cm, 48.0x48.0 cm or 29.5x29.5 cm.
This sign is known as Fernsprechstelle des NSKK-Verkehrshilfsdienstes and was in use since late 1938, early 1939. During the war it was known as Rufstelle. In the earliest stage a small NSKK eagle was in use, later the larger form. It exists also without the Red Cross symbol or with a forc spanner (such symbols came into service during early war). Occasionally such sign has the indication "Becomail", but then it is from cardboard. Most often it is from tin plate.
In my book "Wall Plaques and Official Office signboards of Hitler's German", such sign is shown in use at a street on page 181. Further four such signs are shown with an explanation for reader's convenience.Last edited by wilhelm Saris; 03-19-2015, 04:01 AM.Comment

It's about 23"x23" and is made from one piece of stamped steel, and a glass front.
