Congratulations, Stan, on a wonderful badge. It is nice to know that it is with its 2nd type companion.

Thank you Chen and Eric for providing info on the 2nd type Coburg badge. I've been fortunate to have one in my collection for several years and have thought about the possibility of acquiring a first type but realize how difficult it would be.

2 factors, the money and is one available!

Thanks guys for the positive posts and pm's.

Richard enquired about the catch so I will post a post a photo of that area plus one of the dome-shaped pin in the hinge. Erich's 1st Pattern also has this dome-shaped pin.

The badge also has the same flaw as the 2nd Pattern so IMO, the same die was used for both.

Here is the flaw which is visible on both the 1st and 2nd pattern. Do other badges have this flaw?

Jim enquired via pm about the box. I really have no idea if it is contempory but the badge fits so snugly inside it, I assume it has been made for the badge.

The hinge is made of paper which some case aficionados like to see. Interesting that John Pepera also had a cased example.

Thank you very much for the added pics of this stunning beauty!!

Can you also provide us with a pic of the inside of the box without the badge in it?

Indeed it is interesting that Pepera had one with a box - a pic of that could settle any doubts about originality.

Still an underestimated award in my book.

                Stan,

Thanks for posting the case as requested. The badge sure fits in beautifully, and never mind if the case is original to the award or not, that is one lovely badge !!

I can confirm the same flaw appears on my 1st pattern badge.

                Congrats again

                Jim

It is not shown at this one, at least.

It sure looks like the box was made for a CB IMO Tom

Some also have such flaw, like this one on the left.

Pics of the box minus the award.

I bought a 1929 Nuremberg plaque a while ago and the box it came in also looked brand new. I was asked to remove the base to see if the glue used was old animal glue (brown and cracked) and it was.

I suppose looking under the base of this box would tell us a lot but it is firmly glued down and I don't want to damage it.

I would be very happy to have this box for my badge. I have never seen another, but it sure looks like a perfect fit. This just gets better and better and may well end up being a true bargain.

Stan, thanks for the extra shots. Are there any period incidences known where someone had a presentation case custom made for a badge that held great significance to them?

Beautiful piece. Sometimes you just have to hang the price now and again.

Mine also has the flaw. Stan, either way your badge looks great in the case.
