I guess everything is relative. A new PPK could be bought for RM 35,00 in 1934. But that was more than the weekly wages of a working man. So the RM1,50 was not a pittance. The Gahr silver version of the SS-ZA (SS civil lapel pin) was RM 1,50.

I'm sure dealers will now say this is what one of these is worth and will also point out that the case added little value in this transaction.

About 436 1st patterns CBs awarded and in most cases they're priced lower than RKs.

Someone got a very nice badge regardless of the box.

With most CBs changing hands between collectors, it's whatever the market will bare regarding price. How many original 1st patterns have hit any of the major dealer sites in the last few years compared to RKs for example? Again, you have to take the box out of the equation and I hope the buyer didn't pay a premium for it.

It's all supply and demand Erich. RK's bring the price because of the 14k awarded, less survived and there are many more military badge/medal collectors than there are political. Look at the KC of the KVK. A few years ago these could be found for around $3k even though there were less awarded than even the Coburg badge (though more were probably produced and never awarded). Political stuff is just now beginning to come into its own and we are seeing the price escalation that comes with popularity. I still think this was an extraordinary sum paid for this badge.

I have both the first and second type in my collection. I have been trying to get one for a good friend.

Thank you, Chen, for posting my two badges. I am very glad I already have them. With all the talk of the coming crash in prices, it is apparant that quality is not having trouble finding a home for considerable sums.
