Thank you, Chen, for posting my two badges. I am very glad I already have them. With all the talk of the coming crash in prices, it is apparant that quality is not having trouble finding a home for considerable sums.

    Mr. Hritz,
The cased Coburg (15000E) incident will boost up the value of your Coburg collection!

Not to anyone with a brain in their head, you have a 9000.00 U.S premium for the box over a recent previous sale by the same dealer. Not a chance, that was a sucker play and a sucker was played. These are premium pieces and in time will rise I am sure, but this 9000.00 box bump just means there are more stupid people with money than we think and its Herr Weitze's job to find them and take their money.

I couldn't imagine you wouldn't have one Bob. You have about everything. Is there anything you still seek and I have to wonder how rare it has to be if you don't have it yet in all your years of collecting? Truly a fabulous collection most of us can dream about. Now I just need to figure out how to become a good friend of yours so you'll help me locate one too!

Actually my dream of acquiring a first or second pattern this year has fallen flat as I have to fly my family to Germany to visit Grandma and flying costs a bloody fortune these days. Cheapest round trip I have found, now that the kids are 9 and 11 and have to fly for full fare, will put me out about $4800 and set me back that much on my search for the Coburg badge. Time to work some heavy duty OT at work!

The buyer now has his example and no longer needs to search. I am sure he has other wants on which to concentrate now that Coburg is off the list. Is that not the way of collectors?

Depends on its condition, I would say a nice one app. $8000.

Surely if someone is prepared to pay 15000 Euros that is a matter for them. We can all have different opinions on it, but no doubt the buyer has done their research (one would hope) and is happy with their purchase. And that`s the bottom line. Clearly the buyer didn`t consider it too expensive. Would I pay it? No I wouldn`t, but then 15K is alot of money to me.

I thought I had over paid for my BO and CB 9 years ago, both bought from Weitze, but I spend my money as I wish. And BTW, they have proved to be possibly the best investments I have ever made.

I think people who want that "special" piece for their collection will pay what others consider to be too much. But as my brother who is a collector of anything 1/6 North Staffordshire Regiment from WW1 always says, "you either collect or you don`t" and how many times have we all missed a piece because it was just a little too expensive?

Good luck to the buyer of this rare piece and if they are happy with it, all the better.

For interest sake, there were a total of 7365 recipients of the Ritterkreuz. I think the aura of the award has driven the price up with these RKs in the past, and as said earlier in the thread, only recently have the political awards started to come into their own. Now their prices are rising.

Until I began reading the pinned Coburg badge thread last year I had no idea just how significant the weekend in Coburg was. Historically it was the first big victory outside of Munich, and the reference books certainly talk of it in this way, but I had no idea of just how much the event and the award became part of Nazi lore. Yet another reason why this and other forums are so important for our knowledge. It is a two edged sword of course, as the more we learn the more people realize how significant the awards are and the more they'll pay to get hold of them.

I confess I like the Coburg badge so much as a badge I went and found the only copy I could find for sale anywhere and bought it as a filler. The same with the BO. Both are out of my reach, but at least I have something in hand to look at that reminds me of them. History is a powerful thing.

I know even in the 70's they were priced higher than a Knights Cross. As with all of us, I wished that I would not have passed on adding one to my collection. Tom

Well, yes and no Bob. For example, Jon Fish didn't stop with just one BO, John Peppera didn't stop with one GPB, many collect only panzer badges, IABs, etc. by maker or just to see how many of one badge they can accumulate.

I've often heard it said that one never spends too much on any collectable, one just buys it too early.

this badge with the box was offered in an auction last year, I was watching it and who pays the highest price gets it ;-) Weize buys alot from German auction houses. For some its not worth to buy it because the price is sky high, Weitze buys it sky high as he has sky high customers. Whole story ...
And when someone buys it sky high doesn´t mean the prices are getting higher in value for my view. Trends rise up and go down again and again on certain levels. We have seen also TK ring prices go high and are again quite low ... But the future will tell ...

A 2nd pattern sold at the MAX for 8500.00 and there were no 1st patterns to be had.

I suppose the telling question is how many are out there to be had and how many people with this kind of disposable income want one? That will determine the price.
