80th Anniversary

I note that today -- January 30, 2013 -- is the 80th anniversary of Hitler's appointment as Chancellor of Germany by President Paul von Hindenburg. The history of the world changed forever on that occasion, and none can view the results in any way favorable. But one thing needs to be recognized: for all intents and purposes, our hobby sprang to life on that bleak day in Depression-ravaged Berlin in 1933, and hopefully world history has benefited from the studious efforts of all those historians and researchers who have sought to widen general knowledge of a unique era.

Very interesting James and if the events of Coburg had gone differently in 1922 he most probably wouldn't have entered onto the world stage on this day 80 years ago.

A worthy note for this noteworthy day! Fascinating how a single event changed world history, and regardless of the course it took, our hobby found its beginning!

This day is very significant. If you haven`t, "read " 30 days to power "by Henry Turner Jnr. A great read that highlights the fragility of Hindenburg`s leadership.

Thanks for that reminder, and thanks to Jim for adding a note of background to fill out the course of that momentous date 80 years ago. This is WAF at its best!
