SA Gorget ~ out of the woodwork and need help pricing please

Here's the gorget I purchased at an estate auction this weekend. I know it's genuine, but I don't collect SA and don't know what a fair price is for a gorget in great shape less the chain. Thanks for your help.

In very good condition with chain they go for about 1400.00 retail. Without a chain, about 800.00?

I agree with Erich. The paint has slightly tarnished, but the good thing is that the brown felt backing is intact.

Were there two types of felt backing? Brown and green?

Fantastic photos, maybe this should be pinned as it exemplifies all the pertinent points to be looking out for on an original...Just my two pence...

The backing can also be found in black--so black, dark blue, and SA brown wool.
