Guys, after looking at the attributed GBP thread I became frustrated that I'll never know who owned mine if I can't figure out the numbers. Obviously the original owner didn't want to be identified and took a knife to the reverse. Hopefully some of you guys with the "Roto Engraved" numbers on your GPB's can give me a hand by comparing the font patterns. I feel comfortable with the first two and last numbers, 47XX5. It appears that on the third digit that the top is actually smaller than the bottom which led me to believe it was an 8, but based on the font, it could be a 3 or possibly a 0. The next digit, I really haven't a clue, but it looks like the bottom of the digit may not be damaged which, once again depending on the font, would make it a 2. Maybe there's a real detective out there and I can actually try and find out who the original owner was. Thanks for any assistance!

The magnaflux method likely won't work, since the metal is not iron based.
There are methods that may produce results, but damage to the badge is very possible.

Several years ago I checked with a friend at the local crime lab and he said that stamped numbers on ferrous steel can be readily retreved. Engraved numbers, like these, usually require destructive techniques to try and retrieve them. I don't want to know that bad.

Here's a better photo of just the two unreadable digits even though sometimes it's easier to try and make out numbers from the smaller one.

I think about the same. 47895 makes a good chance.

gbp numbers

look at the difference in the size of the loops in the '8' and the german-style '9'. germans don't write a '9' the way we were taught to make it. but if no one has this number in their list .....?
