Hermann Historica October 2010.... if you cast your minds back and or take a look in your catologues or on the archives on their website the below letters did not seem to reach the €3500 plus commision reserve. They looked like nce original himmler letters to me,opinions?
Lot Nr.3139
Heinrich Himmler
love notes to his mistress Hedwig Potthast 1940 - 1942
Five notes written in ink by Himmler, dating from between 1940 and 1942 on cards of the Volkshilfswerk, that is the people's relief organisation (one torn and glued), on personal card and on name card "Heinrich Himmler - Reichsführer SS", each with a star, numbered "2" and "3", resp. (the first page missing). Himmler regrets not being able to write in more detail ("You wrote words of such fondness, you shall receive an ardent kiss for that"), tells her about his daily routines ("In the evening Dr. Conti and Dr. Grawitz ... and Dr. Schelling come to me to discuss the malaria institute") and inquires about his unborn child ("It must be very hard for you by now. - How much and what? ... The gift you give me will be loved just as much, but most of all his sweet mom"). With a private picture, Himmler with driver in Lemberg, the back inscribed in ink by Himmler "Lemberg 21. VII. 41" as well as a letter handwritten in pencil from "18. VII. 39" to a friend, signed "H. Himmler" (all quotes transl.).
The mentioned meetings with Reichsgesundheitsführer SS. OGruf. Leonardo Conti, Reichsarzt Physician SS and Police SS-Ogruf. Ernst-Robert Grawitz as well as with the physician Claus Schilling are of special interest, as they deal with medical experiments undertaken on concentration camp inmates, who were to be infected with typhus fever (Conti), contagious hepatitis (Grawitz), and malaria (Schilling).
Himmler, although married since 1928 and father of a daughter since 1929, started an affair with Hedwig Potthast in the late 1930s, fathering two illegitimate children in 1942 and 1944, respectively. He regarded such secondary marriages as acceptable for all "free Teutons", if they resulted in the production of offspring.
