Small Golden party badge , original ?

Hi Gary,

I checked the original image files on my website before I posted - the first web photo of this fake listed as a fake is file dated on my computer from early 2002. The webpage on the fake Fuess on my Gold Party Badge website is still HTML tagged as made with "Adobe Pagemill 3.0 Mac", which came out in 1999 and I only used for a short while. The original thread on GDF is gone, but that date seems to be about right.

I didn't say I discovered it - I said "I'm one of the people who outed it". As I said, the "discovery" was in an exchange between John P., myself and others when in discussing this "variant" that no one could trace back farther than 1980 and appears in no period literature. Several badges marked "33333" showed up in the discussion and I argued all things pointed to a fake. Eventually there was general agreement that continues to this day that the badge is a fake out of Austria that started appearing around 1980.

Interesting, because the only Fuess badge on your website that I recall that had any "chance" was #3105 which was posted for several years. I just don't recall the "Austrian" until recent history. Where are the pictures of the three #33333 that you mention? Surely this is a smoking gun, and there must be some evidentiary proof, beyond stories.

The 33333 badges were on the now gone GD Forum thread referred to in the 2005 revisit. The link in the 2005 thread now is broken due to forum upgrades, migrations, etc. One of them belonged to John Pepera. Sorry - I can't go through from memory the seven or eight pages of the now gone thread for you.

Thankfully we do have people like you who go to the trouble to educate us all on these badges, and i have found your site invaluable as well as calling on your advice when purchasing my pair of GPBs.

I can understand why people have been fooled by this badge, but would hope now, even with my limited knowledge of the subject, could identify this one as fake.

Gary,

Market considers them reproductions and marketability is zero. This has been a known issue for more than a few years, because something is not on a website or advertised does not mean its not bad and could be just a measure to protect the market by not talking about it. Badge is bad, market and logic say so, you like it? buy it.

Not that has not been stated previously and the market is not always logical. The fact that there are more fakes in any genre of the market than real items dictates that items are guilty until proven innocent in many cases. Here you have some of the most seasoned and long term collectors of this material in agreement.

Is not an unfavorable comparison with other Fuess badges of known provenance a logical reason for deciding badges of this style to be a reproduction?

Looks like were reading two different threads, if they have not commented then they have been named. I guess you can add some skepticism from Mr. Wotka based on the last post. Not really interested in butting heads with you, the badge is bad and the players know it. The only difference between the players and others is that they do not sell these. ;o)
