        Hi Shaneos3,

It looks like it was an ornament for some purpose, perhaps a decoration for a public building (akin to the two eagles atop poles at the entrance to the Brown House)? No standard logo of any NSDAP-related organization comes to mind. Any idea of the dimensions of it? It certainly is an impressive piece!

Seb - confirms by HB maker. Quite a common piece.

HB pieces tend to have their eagles with a bulging body with smooth rear wings.

            James,
            It was described as 26 inches/ 66cm high and 12 1/2 inches/ 32cm wide weighing 32 pounds.
I understand that it came from the MAX auction, following which it was bought by John and now sold.

              Hello Military and Br.James,
I have just found some information regarding this eagle in this thread:
              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...t=bronze+eagle
It appears that John T found this eagle photographed & described in a period publication and kindly passed it on to the owner: "Dieser adler bildet die dachbefronung der standarte des fuhrers am Deutschen hof in der stadt der Reichsparteitage von einem SA.Mann geschaffen" which apparently means 'This eagle forms the roof greening at the Deutschen hof in the city of the Reich Party Congresses from one SA mans production',
              Best Regards,
              Michael

Incredible to find a period photograph of the same eagle and have it matched up to the seller/buyer!
The caption indicates, if I'm reading it correctly, that the eagle was the finial for the Führerstandarte on the roof of the hotel 'deutsche Hof' in Nürnberg and was designed by an SA man.
What a piece of history to have survived and what luck to be able to identify it by way of an obscure newspaper clipping.

                          Hello All,
I remember that at the same time John T had the Deutscher Hof Adler, he also had a large heavy Bronzed Iron wall eagle of the same size that he had been able to attribute to the elementary school of the Medieval town of Boppard in Germany. I saved the pictures as I loved this eagle at the time as it was another unique hand-crafted one of a kind Art-Deco style eagle with provenance. (Photos Courtesy John T)

                          Ojoneso/ Sepp,
I haven't forgotten that your eagle started this thread and will take a moment to comment on it. I think its a great maker-marked original example on a lovely 2 piece white marble stand. I for one have been collecting desk eagles for a number of years and have still not managed to find one of these HB marked desk eagles for myself. Great find.

                          Best Regards,
                          Michael
