Just an update....this plaque sold. Asking price was 1850 Euros.

Actually the last 5 sales were:

1,850 Euro for a full plaque from Weitze Oct 2018

$507 for just the metal portion of the plaque from Ratisbon auctions Jun 2018

$1,160 for just the metal portion of the plaque from Bagwell auctions Feb 2018

$1,700 for a full plaque from Wormers Auction Sep 2017

$5,000 for a complete plaque from (did not record) on unknown date.

lost opportunity

Though it likely won't add to this thread I met a fellow in the mid-1960's who had a couple TR items from an unknown source and he was willing to trade them for M-1 carbine ammunition. I managed to come up with a couple stripper clips of ammo and he swapped a fine EM embroidered SS eagle for what I had. The other item he had was a Coburg badge with the pin but missing the catch. I remember the pin being thin and an odd light weight for the heavy badge and now assume it must have been the first issue type. No matter what I could offer the fellow refused to trade the badge and kept it. Though I don't collect political badges I always wished I could have gotten that one as it was an attractive piece and I wonder if it ever ended up in circulation among collectors. Does anyone know of a first pattern badge without the catch in any collection? And, no, I have no idea what became of the fellow who had the one I saw in the 60's or what his name was.

I haven't seen any of these badges with a missing catch, but for sure one day it might just surface.

I once chatted with a fellow that found me on line that had a 1st pattern badge that was kept in a coffee can on a shelf in his garage. His dad brought it back from the war and he played with it as a child breaking the catch off. After he found out the value of his badge he put it in a safe deposit box.

If you look, you can see a few different catch styles on the 1st pattern badges with some looking more fragile than others.

Today, I saw on Instagram that Lakeside Trader also has one of the Coburg Plates. Not sure if its one thats been recycled from another collection or not though.
