    SA Niederrhein kepi

What do you guys think of this SA Niederrhein kepi? I just bought a Niederrhein brown shirt and I'm looking for a kepi to go with it. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I like it, not the usual color band material (had to be wool), but nevertheless seems OK.
Condition is not the best, If you wait a little bit you could perhaps find and other one in better condition.

SA kepis with black bands are not so rare.

It looks fine to me also. I've seen twill bands on several kepis-- as Pascal noted, it's not regulation but was done. The condition is not too bad--the ersatz sweatbands tend to deteriorate, and if the kepi is placed on a form, it will take on a crisper appearance. It's nice to find one in a larger size (59). If the price is not unreasonable, I would recommend buying it. You can always upgrade it if you find a nicer one in the future.

          Kepi

I wouldn't drag my feet on any kepi you need to match, if the price was OK. Also, it has the early eagle, which would go nicely with an early brownshirt with the bi-color piping. Look closely to see if there is an outline where a larger eagle was previously. Then you'll KNOW the eagle was added later. They wouldn't go from a large eagle to a small one if it was period done. Post some pics of the shirt!! Of course, even if your shirt is later, without the collar piping, the small eagle would be OK. If there IS an outline of a large eagle, and your shirt is a late style, I'd change the eagle to a larger one.

I agree on buying it if you're looking for a Niederrhein. SA kepis are not so easy to find.
This is a 1937 pattern, so it could have had either eagle. Also, despite the requests from the OSAF, there are numerous photos showing both the early and later eagles being worn by SA men in the same unit at the same time. So, you can leave the eagle regardless of the vintage of the shirt if you like!
I believe I've seen this kepi before at a show--I can't remember if it was one I owned or not, but it's certainly a solid example.

                      Shirt

Thanks for posting. Can you post closeups of the collar tabs? Was there ever a shoulder board on the right shoulder? There would be thread holes on the shoulder close to the collar. Any RZM tag on the inner waistband? Are the belt clips RZM marked?

I recognise the right tinnie, but would enjoy seeing a close up of the left one with the eagle on top. I am a closet Niederrhein collector.....

there is a shoulder board on the right side, i just noticed that in the picture you cant see it. The bottons are RZM marked. It's hard to make out the thread pattern on the collar tabs in the picture.
