HJ gold sport leaders badge - photos

    obv.jpg

this new thread is a continuation from my 7/17 post ...
I was offered this medal and wanted to know if it was original.
The previous pictures were from a scanner and very poor.
These photos should tell the tale - is this medal original or a fake?

description: Two piece construction, gold plated white brass insignia attached to a dish shaped enameled wreath, 50x40 mm, 37.56 gm, ser. number 21514, RZM 1/101 (Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen), hinge and catch are also gold plated white metal, pin has no spring tension because the butt end is too short.

I can't say that I like it I'm afraid. The comments on the previous thread still hold, the hatching used in the numbers looks wrong, & the font used on the numbers is different to an accepted original.

The distance between RZM & M marks, although similar are noticably different when compared to an accepted original.

Ron's comment regarding the amount of enamel visible is very noticable on these images. Also is it the lighting or is the enamel blue?

                Sorry

                  enamel color

                  thanks for the feedback Don

The enamel is black. I've got no money in this medal. The yearly subscription to WA has already paid for itself many times over thanks to experienced collectors and dealers willing to share their experience.

A few things I don't like about the medal is that it is not made of tombac (brass) - this one is white metal. Another is the pin - I can't see how a pin that is not fitted properly so it would never stay closed on the catch would ever leave the factory like that. The fire guilding vs gold plating is another red flag.

I can see how comparison against known originals is really important when your money is on the line!

Anyone out there with pictures of vet acquired examples of this medal?

                    hatching in the numbers

I just looked at the serial numbers again - there is no hatching.
Maybe the photo gives an optical illusion because it is not a real close-up, the 1514 are slightly doubled because of a little shoulder on the die.

The numbers look like they were all pressed or struck in at once - even though they are not on an even baseline.
