The formal, printed invitation from the Ortsgruppenleiter shown in posting #10 at the beginning of this thread invites an imminent recipient to attend the ceremony where her M.K. Erste Stufe will be presented to her.

Here is a much less formal, indeed, a very simple invitation which has been type-written on a small piece of paper. It invites an individual, whose name is hand-written in ink at the top, to attend the M.K. award presentation ceremony on December 17 at 3PM in the gymnasium. It clearly states that the invitation must be brought to the event, presumably to ensure admittance to the ceremony. It is issued by the "N.S. Frauenschaft Grein" (in Hessen, near Heidelberg).

It is not known whether the person receiving this invitation is to receive a M.K., or simply someone being invited to attend the award presentation ceremony.

Anyone who can read the name written at the top is asked to kindly add that here. All comments are welcome.

        Thanks,

        John

Her name is Maria Dober and the invitation is for her to come and pick up her cross.

Yes, Gaston, many thanks for your feedback and please accept my apologies for not acknowledging that earlier.

Best regards from Canada, where we are about to observe Remembrance Day. I always think of our friends in The Netherlands on that day. Thank you all for your kindness.

              John

                Dear john,

Best regards to Canada and make it a great day.

The reply by Kokstok above here was to another post i made and in which were unmasked two well known frauds in the collectorscommunity, that repeatedly stole and steal other peoples pictures. For some reason that post has now however disappeared.

                best regards,
                Gaston

My Great Aunt's Gold Mother's Cross - Eligibility

                  http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/...therscross.jpg

My Great Aunt gave me her Gold Mother's Cross. She never had any children but adopted her husband's child from his previous marriage. My Great Uncle initially joined the SS but somehow opted out later. His first wife died in the war. Were there any other eligibility requirements other than having 8 or more children to receive a Gold Mother's Cross?

                    Hi Spitzboop,

normally it would not be possible to recieve a gold motherscross for "just" adopting one child from a partner. A gold cross required 8 or more children for/from the mother. However, i think to remember to have once read that a cross was awarded to a woman that took care of other children as well (sort of a orpan care for more children than her own that were less than 4, but because of the orphan care she did recieve a motherscross after all), i don't remember anything like this to be in the official rules, but think it may be possible that here or there an exception was made (very rarely, but not impossible!). Do you know anything more of the background of your great aunt? Did she do any children caring activities perhaps? IF a cross was awarded for such a practice it would be an extremely rare occasion and exception, but perhaps not impossible.

                    best regards,
                    Gaston

Just found this awesome thread so thought I would share my small collection as well, not much but a good start for only 3months
I know it shows a silver cross on a bronze packet but the bronze/gold both have full length ribbons where as the silver has been shortened
still looking for silver mini to complete this set

Thanks very much for your response. The daughter is still around and will hopefully get the real story soon.

As with the Wound Badge, which also was awarded in three classes (black, silver & gold) depending upon the number of times wounded, the "...progression was waived in the event of a severe wound..." (per Angolia). So, I am sure that there were exceptional circumstances which allowed for and would explain the award of a gold class Mother's Cross, as in the case described above.
