All the parts and insignia appear to be authentic. The real question is when they were joined together. From a police collectors point of view this tunic would be suspect. The rank is very high. I wonder how many FG personnel held this rank, surely not many. Could a high officer have worn such a tunic to assuage his vanity? I guess so if army regulations would allow it, but I think it impossible to say for sure.

The tunic is attractive, and well put together, but I fear that is all we can say with any certainty. As I said in my previous post I find this tunic "doubtful". FG high ranks came from the civil police, and guys reaching full rank at this level would be pretty serious about following regulations, at least in my opinion. Wearing a tunic different from those under your command is bad for unit integrity and discipline, I just can't see it being done.

Good observation and my thoughts exactly!

The collar tabs are Heer style while the sleeve eagle is Polizei style. I can't tell if the sleeve eagle has field-grey or police green backing. This eagle should have a field-grey backing to match the field-grey tunic.

        Just something to check.

Hi SCHUPO, since this Feldgendarm is Heer related, the tabs and shoulder boards are okay. Re the eagle, interesting point. Of course is known the special orange on fieldgrey eagle, especially for FG, (also seen in wear by officers btw) but would not know if there was also a officer version on field grey available, it makes sense? Perhaps some one else can elaborate?

All the same, it would not necessarily disqualify IMO. Often Polizei insignia were worn to denote former service in the Polizei or simply no other eagle was available at the time.

It appears to be police green backing, a few shades off, but blends in very well

              Dear George,

Have you ever come across a field gray backed officer's eagle? I can honestly say that I haven't. As you say they should exist, but I have a suspicion that officers probably retained their old police insignia when shuffled over to the army.

              Regards,

Bill, I have and it also came from an FG officer effects. Even though you couldn't tell, I posted a picture of it before in the Best of 2014 thread, link is below. So they do exist. I also suspect that due to the somewhat insignificant variation in color of backing, I also suspect many OrPo made pieces were retained and used in the FG.

I'm curently in possession of the FG Major wrapper. I have checked it firmly and here are my thoughts. Overall the tunic looks amazing. The quality of material is superb and same as on all high end tunics (general, high quality waffenrocks,...). All the stiching is perfectly fitting, no loose ends, no modifications, no signs of previous insignia being present, to me everything was sewn on as it should be. Medal loops are perfect as found on other tunics. Here i'm posting more closup and detailed pictures for you to comment on it. I wasnt able to find a matching picture to it but to me it sits quite beleavable.
I apreshiate all your comments, even if they were already said in previous replys.
